The fate of this generation of veterans is in the hands of the community. Politics and opinions on the wars aside -- our returning troops need us.
We can protect our heroes from the side effects of war by showing gratitude, respect, and support from the community. Not just with parades and accolades on the first day back, but in the difficult months following their return. A little help from the community will go a long way in how our troops readjust to life at home following the gruesome and traumatic days of war.
Anyone can volunteer from 9 - 90. The more support our returning troops receive - the less likely it is that we will see shattered Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in the years ahead.
